Tragic road accident in Lucknow: Businessman’s daughter lost control of the car

KKN Gurugram Desk | A devastating road occurred in ‘s Khadra area on Tuesday afternoon, leading to the death of a 45-year-old man and causing serious injuries to a child and an elderly woman. The has raised concerns about road safety and the responsibilities of drivers, especially in densely populated urban areas.

Around 3:30 PM on June 3, 2025, near Shia PG College in Khadra, a Maruti Brezza SUV, driven by 35-year-old Tanu Gupta, lost control and struck multiple pedestrians. The vehicle first hit a cyclist, identified as Ravindra Pandey, a 45-year-old employee of King George’s University. Subsequently, the car collided with 16-year-old Daksh Sonkar and an elderly beggar woman named Ramapati. After hitting the pedestrians, the SUV crashed into nearby shops and an electric pole before coming to a halt.

Casualties and Medical Response

Ravindra Pandey was declared dead upon arrival at the trauma center. Daksh Sonkar and Ramapati sustained critical injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the same facility. The severity of their injuries has prompted medical staff to monitor their conditions closely.

Driver and Vehicle Details

The driver, Tanu Gupta, is a resident of Saadatganj and the daughter of real estate businessman Pankaj Kumar Gupta. She was accompanied by her mother, Rajni Gupta, at the time of the accident. According to initial reports, Tanu lost control of the vehicle while returning from a relative’s house in Madiyaon.

Eyewitnesses reported that the car was moving at a high speed and appeared to be out of control before it struck the pedestrians and eventually crashed into the shops and electric pole.

Legal Actions and Investigations

Following the incident, the Madeyganj station registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Tanu Gupta based on a complaint filed by Golu Sonkar, the father of the injured boy, Daksh. Tanu Gupta was taken into custody, and her vehicle was seized for further investigation.

Inspector Rajesh Kumar Singh of Madeyganj police station stated that a detailed investigation is underway. The vehicle will undergo a technical inspection to determine whether the accident was caused by mechanical failure or driver error.

Community Reaction

The accident caused panic and chaos in the Khadra area. Local residents rushed to the scene to assist the victims and expressed outrage over the incident. The suddenness and severity of the crash have left the community shaken, prompting calls for stricter traffic regulations and enforcement.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing issues related to road safety in urban areas. The combination of high-speed driving, congested streets, and pedestrian traffic creates a hazardous environment. Authorities are urged to implement more stringent measures to ensure the safety of both drivers and pedestrians.
